Oklahoma City

My mother and I took a trip to Oklahoma City together for a family reunion. It was the Pace Society of America's annual "family meeting." We had a wonderful time meeting new people and spending time with ones we already knew. It was a lot of fun although I am pretty sure I was the only one there who did not color their hair to cover up the greys. In fact at the end of the reunion they handed our awards for various things. One of the awards was for the Youngest Attendee, yes I walked away with it. Pretty exciting. Oklahoma City was beautiful. It was so green and it had so much rich history.
These are some of my moms 1st cousins. The woman on the front row in the middle is the last living of my mothers siblings.

I need help. When we move to Oklahoma City I will need to decide which one of these I want to live in. Which one would you choose. These are in a historic area called Heritage Hills. Doesn't it just sound fancy..."I love in Heritage Hills." I think I could get used to that.

This cracked me up. I need one of these for my lawn. We occasionally find little doggie goodies on our front lawn. How rude! This was on a lawn on Heritage Hills.

These next pictures are from the Oklahoma City National Memorial. AKA: Oklahoma City bombing memorial. This was a very touching and reverent place to be.

This is the only remaining corner from the Murrah Federal Building.

Each one of these chairs represents a person who was killed that day. If you notice, there are bigger and smaller chairs. The small chairs represent a child. There was a child care center on the second floor so many children were killed that day too.

This is just outside the memorial. People still leave things on this fence. I got very emotional when I saw baby toys and binkies attached. So many people lost there lives that day. All because of some really stupid thinking and ideas. There was also a big museum we walk through as well but you could not take pictures inside. If you ever get a chance to go there take it. You will be glad you did.

These are all over the place. The next set of pictures are from a boat tour down Canal Street through Bricktown.
This is Toby Keith's I love this Bar and Grill. I would love to say I ate there but I didn't. Darn!!!
My cute mom and I.

Above are a couple pictures of some bronze statues. They were huge. They depict what was happening in the Big Land Run of 1895ish. People lined up on the top border of Oklahoma and when a gun was shot people took of to claim their land. The second picture is amazing. It is a man on a horse with tattered clothes, no shoes, no saddle, just a poor man. But you will notice he has a flag in his hang. He claimed his land and was headed back to the recorders office. The land claim was for anyone, rich or poor.
On the last day we went to the Stockyard part of town. It was full of cowboys shops and such. We went to the actually stockyards expecting to see a bunch of cows. Instead we found or should I say smelled a bunch of pigs. They were Very big pigs.

What a special trip. That statue reminds me of "Far and away" one of my all time favorite movies. The picture with the chairs really makes me sad. I bet that was a great humbling experience. I would love to visit all those sights. Glad you had a great trip :)

Cool Sarah, I only live about 3 hours away from Oklahoma City, but have never been. I have heard many great things about it though. I really need to get up there! Are you really going to move there?!
